Discover Kilifi County: Kenya’s Hidden Gem for Culture, Beaches, and Adventure

It is the dream of mankind to travel, explore, and discover the mysteries of the world. From setting foot in the world’s most admired tourist destinations to capturing magnificent landscapes with their camera lenses and hearts to satiate their deepest wanderlust.

Africa’s allure as a travel destination lies in its diversity. The continent spans 54 countries, each, with its own distinct identity, landscapes, traditions, and attractions. The natural beauty of Africa is unrivalled and one of the most popular reasons for travelling to the African continent is for safaris. Today, a country like Kenya boasts a top travel destination for those seeking to explore the continent’s wildlife, landscapes, and most classical, pristine sandy beaches and diverse ecosystems. This incredible biodiversity along with its rich cultural heritage makes Kenya a must-visit for travelers.

Today we take a deep dive into one of the 5 counties that make up the Kenyan coast: Kilifi – which was created by the merger of the Malindi and Kilifi districts. The other 4 counties are: Kwale, Lamu, Mombasa, and Tana River. Kilifi is a county situated northeast of Mombasa on the Kenyan coast and covering approximately 12,370.8 square km.For persons interested in learning more about coastal culture and inquest to experiencing the county’s green setting along with culinary skills and the art of living, then Kilifi is the epitome of it. Kilifi county stretches along the coast and into the hinterland from Mtwapa, through Vipingo, and the warm and welcoming Watamu to Malindi. One of the most stunning vistas along the highway is the view you see from the bridge in Kilifi town over the turquoise-green waters of the creek. It is simply breathtaking.

Just 3.5 miles from the center of Kilifi town, lies one of the county’s best and most luxurious 5-star hotels – the Silver Palm Spa & Resort along the famous Bofa road. The magnificent lifestyle resort combines a series of 38 deluxe rooms designed with warm spacious airy rooms to entice honeymooners or holidaymakers. If you are the kind of person who appreciates architectural precision, privacy pampering, and personal service, then the Palm is your perfect getaway.

Amenities

Early in 2022, precisely mid-January, I had the pleasure of visiting the prestigious resort that sits on 22,000 sq. feet of land. It was a 4-day staycation accompanied by a warm, tropical, and delightful experience with unmatched service.

From checking in to my hotel room to experiencing the most scenic landscape that the Silver Palm had to offer, not forgetting the luxurious pieces of art that adorn the walls and corridors of the Silver Palm’s architecture.

The Silver Palm offers a wide variety of exquisite dining experiences for its guests and can facilitate conferencing for those who would like to travel to the coast for business.

For those looking to refresh and revive their bodies, the resort has a gym and spa which make for the perfect combination of fitness and relaxation.

What made my happy list during my time was the design of the 4 ft deep (in some places) picturesque swimming pool. Its crystalline waters are as blue as the sky and the pool meanders around the resort, almost from end to end, edged by concrete and perfectly mowed grass… with some parts of the pool allowing guests to swim up to their suites. Guests can also enjoy a variety of water sports at the resort or play a little tennis on the court.

Final thoughts

Overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by swaying palm trees and a refreshing coastal breeze, you’ll discover a resort experience crafted to help you reconnect with your inner self. This oasis of serenity captures the essence of Africa and the rich traditions of the Kenyan coast. If you’re dreaming of re-energizing and escaping to a world of tranquility this festive season, head to the Kenyan coast. Here, manicured gardens and endless ocean views will create a travel story filled with beauty, written anew with every sunrise.
