A People Called Afrika
age. Afrika is not a land of fools or primitive-tree-climbing
monkeys. She is not a third world continent and she is not
depleted. She is not a collection of nations where some self-
ish, arrogant and over-pampered leaders say they are build-
ing legacies, which are nothing but business investments for
their own unborn grandchildren. Afrika is the womb of God
carrying Divine realities for God and a continent whose des-
tiny is the foundation of the emancipation of the entire earth.
Afrikans themselves just have to see and deliberately make
the right moves for change, especially as the world moves
into the uncharted waters of the post Covid-19 pandemic.
The name Afrika
The true Afrika was beautifully crafted from the very begin-
ning of things and this is clearly articulated in her name AFRI-
KA. The name Afrika is a combination of two words Afri and
Ka. Other indigenous people of Afrika used the name “Afri”
or “Ifran”. The ancient language of Mizraim/Kemet (Ancient
Egypt) called Afrika “Af-Rui-Ka.” It means the opening of Ka.
Afri like Afro means ‘black’ and Ka means ‘soul’ or ‘spirit’.
It also means the place of birth and, according to some other
interpretations; Afrika also means the place of the placenta.
Technically, this would suggest that Afrika means the land of the
blacks that is the womb of spirit or soul. That is the land of life.
Another explanation is found in “Afuraka/Afuraitkait: The
Origin of the Term Africa” by Odwirafo Kwesi Ra Ne-
hem Ptah Akhan. To start off, he suggests that the proper
orientation of Afrika is with the south as the “head-land”,
the west as the “right” and the east as the “left” (see im-
age on the next page, as copied from Odwirafo’s article).
N.B.: Afuraka/Afruaitkait is, according to Odwirafo, the
original masculine/feminine forms of the name Afrika.
