A PEOPLE CALLED AFRIKA
omy is growing? Should it be called a government at all?
We must rethink the Afrikan narrative, narrow down the plac-
es where we have swallowed the lies we were told and then
deliberately chart a new course for ourselves.
The original Afrikan
The human body, according to the creation story, was taken
from the earth and sincerely the body and the earth never
lost their connection. The minerals that the body is comprised
of are replenished when he eats what is grown in that same
earth. When the earth groans, the human body also groans.
The original Afrikan understands that the health of the land
is the health of his own body. The original Afrikan knows that
he is part of the earth and the earth is part of him and thus the
corruption and death of one is the corruption and death of
the other. So with this in mind, he takes care of and nurtures
the soil in which he grows his crops, he blesses the lakes and
rivers from which he gets his fish and water, he is thankful for
the forests from where his meat and herbs come from. He is
not a selfish Capitalist that does not mind the effects of what
he does to the land and to others in the society. No, his heart
is constantly on the overall effect of his choices and actions
on himself, his family, his community and his environment.
What we see in Afrika today is a corrupt version of what the
true Afrikan is. What we have today, is the Afrikan who has
been taught that the pursuit of money and things is the be
all and end all of his existence. One who now believes that
unless he gathers unto himself for his own gain and personal
interest, he will never be worth consideration as what Ajayike-
hinde Belteshazaar Ametu aptly describes as a SOMEBODY
(see Msingi Afrika Magazine Issue 7). It is this pursuit of be-
