Colonization

Men with hair like sisal, who
move on the air, water and
                                           land in vessels will come,
they will take away our land
                                  “and destroy our culture.’
                                   Me’poho, Mijikenda Prophetess, Afrika.

                                   Raiders from the north

                                   Afrika was not without supernatu-
ral warnings concerning the arrival of
the white man. Me’poho, a Mijikenda
Prophetess from East Afrika is quoted
above as having warned her people of
what was coming before the arrival of the
white man. And as was foretold, the peo-
ple from the North did arrive and with
them, much theft, death and destruction.

They arrived on the shores of our great
continent, first as ‘explorers’, though in
modern parlance we would probably call
them spies. These forerunners came and
saw the land that it was good, claimed they
                                   had discovered geographical landmarks
with such great aplomb and self-acclaim
that it has left many wondering, centuries
later, whether their Afrikan great grand-
parents and those who came before them
were too blind or stupid not to know that
these features existed in their own land.
