A PEOPLE CALLED AFRIKA

about the issue of reparations, in which Afrikans both at home
and in the Diaspora were debating how much money should
be given to Afrikan nations, it just seems like mindlessness to
talk about it from the space of money. While it is good that
the debate is taking place, we know that what Afrika lost was
not just material things, but her people, her true identity and
purpose, so to “repay” the loss of life, family and identity with
money is nothing but a failure to visualize the bigger picture.

If anyone wants to talk about reparations, let’s begin with the
return of Afrika’s brains, thinkers, innovators, creators, econo-
mists, scientists, who will give strength to the Afrikans at home
for proper rebuilding of our Afrikan narrative. Return the
books, artifacts, papers, ancient writings, arts that were stolen
from Afrika; rewrite the history of Afrika that was twisted in
order to support the slavers’ and colonizers’ agendas and tell
the truth about what Afrika was when they came here and then
you will be talking about genuine reparations. To say that rep-
arations should be about money is first, just the return of a tiny
portion of the entire amount of wealth that was stolen and two,
it is just going to be like signing the death warrant of the average
Afrikan. Why is that? It’s simple. To give what was stolen from
Afrikans to Afrikan governments is like giving what was stolen
from a mouse to the cat to return to the mouse. It’s murder! For,
both the mouse and what was returned will be eaten by the cat.

We have currently too much of a hyena-mentality in Afri-
kan governments. They can’t be trusted even with their own
dignity and souls. Quite literally most of the people we have
in government in Afrika sold their souls and dignity on the
table of greed a long time ago. So we will borrow some of
the advice of former British Prime Minister David Camer-
