brancy still contained within our continent, within our hearts,
that is restorative. It used to be that in the 80s or so, there are
those who would challenge Afrikans not to go the way of the
West, encouraging the people to go back to the ways of their
forefathers warning them that there was wickedness in the ways
of the West. Those people were shunned and ignored because
of the shiny cars and toys that Afrika wanted to gain access
to. They wanted to live like their conquerors and perhaps tap
into what they had that allowed them to subdue the people of
Afrika. They wanted to dress like them, learn their ways, talk
like them, think like them and be like them. So downtrod-
den and browbeaten were our people that they simply rolled
over and embraced whatever false culture they were fed.
Now Afrika is facing social crises that came from embrac-
ing the lifestyle of the West and their education and ways of
ruling and thinking and doing. Afrika is facing increases in
cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, obesity, infer-
tility and immunodeficiency which are being linked to harm-
ful farming practices, diet and stresses from modern lifestyle.
Children are killing themselves because of ‘poor’ exam re-
sults; families are disintegrating because parents are either so
focused on their careers to the detriment of the children and
family unit or because they do not have enough, sometimes
parents even killing children because they can’t look after
them; businesses are struggling and failing to make it competi-
tively against international firms which come into Afrika under
terms more favorable than local businesses get; governments
are not fulfilling their mandates and are not faithful with the
little they are given by their citizens in the form of taxes; coun-
tries are weighed down by debts that will be visited upon the
